Paste the snippet

Your theme's footer.php, or a header/footer plugin

  1. Copy your snippet

    In your SiteMind dashboard, open Widget Studio and copy the embed code. It is one script tag with your widget key in it.

  2. Open your theme editor

    In your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance → Theme File Editor. If your host has disabled this (common on managed hosting like WP Engine or Kinsta), install a free plugin instead: "WPCode" or "Insert Headers and Footers" both work well.

  3. Find footer.php

    Open your active theme's footer.php file. If you're using a plugin instead, open its settings page and find the field labelled "Footer" or "Scripts in Footer."

  4. Paste the snippet

    Paste the snippet on its own line, immediately before the closing </body> tag.

  5. Save

    Click Update File (or Save Changes in the plugin). The widget appears on your site immediately, with no cache clearing needed unless you use a page-caching plugin.

Use the SiteMind Chat plugin

No code editing. Paste your widget key into the plugin settings.

  1. Get the plugin

    The plugin is not in the WordPress plugin directory yet. Email [email protected] and we will send you the file.

  2. Upload and activate it

    In WordPress, go to Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, choose the file, then activate it.

  3. Paste your widget key

    Go to Settings → SiteMind Chat, paste the widget key from Widget Studio in your SiteMind dashboard, and save.

Good to know. Before you start.

  • Switching themes

    Editing theme files directly means the snippet disappears if you switch themes later. A footer-code plugin avoids that, and it is worth doing if you expect to redesign.

  • New posts are picked up on your schedule

    Your site can be recrawled daily, weekly or monthly, or whenever you press the button, so new posts reach the assistant without you doing anything else.

Yes. The snippet is a plain script tag added before </body>, which works with any theme or page builder. The plugin adds the same tag through WordPress’s footer hook.

Yes. The script tag is part of the page like any other footer script, so cached pages include it.

From your own site. SiteMind crawls your pages, and you can add files and written answers too. It answers only from that content and links the page each answer came from.

The script loads with the async attribute, so it does not hold up the rest of your page while it downloads.
